Corrections Policy

If a PayNumera result or explanation appears wrong, tell us which page you used and what you expected to see. Calculation errors receive priority because even a small mistake can affect how someone understands their pay.

How do I report an error?

Use the Give us Feedback control in the site navigation or the options on Contact Us. Choose the calculator category for a numerical result and the bug category for a technical failure. General feedback is suitable for inaccurate wording, a broken source link or an unclear explanation.

You do not need to diagnose the cause or provide a corrected formula. A clear description of what happened is useful on its own. We also welcome reports about keyboard access, screen-reader labels, missing content and mobile layouts that make a result difficult to use.

What information helps us reproduce a calculation?

Provide the smallest example that shows the problem. For a calculator report, useful details include:

  • The page and tax year: include the calculator name or page address and the year displayed with the result.
  • The scenario: pay amount, pay frequency, filing status, state and relevant W-4, deduction or year-to-date entries.
  • The discrepancy: identify the exact result line, the amount shown and what you expected instead.
  • The evidence: link to an official instruction, identify its table or example, or describe how you checked the amount.
  • The conditions: say whether the problem occurs consistently and, for a display issue, identify your device and browser.

For a guide, quote the short passage in question and explain why it seems outdated, incomplete or incorrect. An official source is helpful when available, but it is not a requirement for submitting a report.

What should I leave out of a report?

Do not send Social Security numbers, account passwords, bank details, complete tax returns or unredacted payroll records. Use invented sample amounts if they reproduce the same issue. If identifying a difference requires actual figures, share only the relevant numbers and remove names, addresses and employer identifiers.

The feedback form asks for your name and email so a follow-up is possible. Submitting feedback sends the information you enter to PayNumera; it is separate from running a calculator. See the privacy policy for how deliberate submissions are handled.

How should a reported issue be investigated?

Our review standard is to reproduce the scenario, identify the applicable calculation or passage and compare it with the relevant official source. A discrepancy may come from a software defect, an incorrect input assumption, an unsupported feature or a difference between payroll withholding and annual tax liability. The investigation should distinguish those causes.

For a confirmed financial defect, the affected formula or data must be corrected and covered by a regression test before a corrected release. Related tools that share the calculation must also be checked. If a rule cannot be verified, the appropriate response is to identify the limitation or withhold the affected estimate, not substitute an invented rate.

Editorial corrections should revise the affected explanation, example, source and related metadata together. These are the standards guiding correction work; a submitted report does not mean an error has already been confirmed.

How are readers told about corrections?

A material correction changes the meaning of an explanation, a formula, a rate or a result. Our policy calls for a clear note on the affected page when needed to explain what was wrong and what changed, together with the relevant updated date or calculation version. A review date should change only when a review actually takes place.

Spelling, punctuation, formatting and link repairs that do not change the financial meaning may be fixed without a separate correction notice. A new tax year's rules are a routine update rather than evidence that the earlier year's explanation was wrong.

What should I do while a report is being reviewed?

Check the methodology and the limitations shown beside the result. If a discrepancy affects an imminent payroll or tax decision, verify it with your payroll department, the responsible tax agency or a qualified adviser. Do not wait for a website correction to resolve a filing or payment deadline.

Resolution depends on the evidence and complexity of the issue, so this policy does not promise a fixed response or correction time. A submitted report is a request for investigation, not confirmation of an employer error or a personalized tax determination. Our editorial policy and financial disclaimer explain the wider standards and limits.
